Folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin and an essential nutrient for the human body. It participates in important physiological metabolic functions in the body, such as being used in the production of red blood cells and is an essential nutrient for cell growth.
Since the human body cannot synthesize it on its own, it needs to be supplemented through diet or health products. The main sources of folic acid are vegetables, beans, and fruits, but folic acid is easily lost through high-temperature cooking. Frequent eating out and uneven diet can also lead to folic acid deficiency, which requires appropriate supplementation of additional folic acid.
Women should take 400 micrograms of folic acid daily during the first three months of pregnancy and during pregnancy to help promote the normal development of the fetal brain, nervous system and spine.
Insufficient folic acid will also affect sperm quality, so sufficient folic acid can prepare men for pregnancy.
