Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin found throughout the body, maintaining the structural integrity of cells. It exists in natural (starting with d-) or synthetic form (starting with dl-), among which the natural form d-alpha-tocopherol has the best absorption rate and the highest activity.
Vitamin E has a powerful antioxidant function and can eliminate free radicals in the body. Free radicals are produced by various body functions and are common substances in the body. Some free radicals are products of the body’s energy conversion, some are caused by pollutants in the air or other environments, and some are caused by lifestyle habits, including excessive fat intake, smoking or drinking alcohol. Most free radicals are eliminated by the body’s natural antioxidant defenses. However, some free radicals may evade the body’s defense mechanisms and accumulate in the body. Studies have shown that accumulation of free radicals in the body can cause cell damage.
Vitamin E helps prevent free radical damage to arterial walls and maintains heart health. The normal blood vessel wall intima is thin and elastic, but a damaged blood vessel wall is prone to atherosclerosis, which causes the intima to thicken and harden. Atherosclerosis is formed by a variety of substances, including oxidized low-density cholesterol. Severe atherosclerosis can eventually lead to vascular occlusion and impede blood flow.
